Subjects of the reels include ski fashions made by White Stag for 1941-1943, as well as views of Yosemite National Park, Yellowstone National Park, the Columbia River Highway, the Overseas Highway in Florida, and Palm Springs, Calif., among other scenic views. All of the View-Master reels were made by Sawyer's, Inc. of Portland, Or.

Harold Hirsch, a native of Portland, Oregon, graduated from Dartmouth College in 1929. He served as president of Portland-based White Stag Manufacturing Company from the 1930s to 1972, implementing production and national distribution of innovative outdoor and sport clothing. He was active in numerous civic organizations, including the Japanese Garden Society and Nature Conservancy. He was a Reed College trustee (1956-1990) and served as president of the Port of Portland.
